2016 VIDEO: Video capture with NPCs.

Video capture with NPCs
Updated 10/26/2016
OpenSim has an augmented scripting language that adds features not available in Second Life.  One added feature is Non-Player Characters (NPCs). These are duplicates of avatars and so are ideal for video capture.  The appearance of each character in the video can be duplicated to produce a body-double that can be used in a clip that does not need much action from the character. Some action can be produced by an animation.

Red is transparent
  • We use poseballs to place avatars and NPCs.
  • They are on their mark everytime.
  • Poseballs are invisible (transparent) for filming
  • But we highlight transparent to see them.
  • Everything transparent turns red
NPCs duplicate avatars
  • NPCs can't do much.
  • So when we need a character to speak or do things.
  • We bring in an avatar with a person operating it.
  • NPCs cant do much
  • But they are always around.  They never sleep.
  • They can replace some of the main characters in some shots.
  • And they can do animations as well as avatars can.
  • So if you have 4 important characters in a shot,
  • you may only need 1 live person to run the avatar who is active.
  • It is hard to get 4 people together.
  • Much easier to get one person together.
  • Together with the camera operator and the director.
